Norway: 24 hours of dreamlike beauty in the Lyngen Alps
A review of this wonderful stay in the region Tromso In Northern Norway, where we had the opportunity to embark on a 24-hour adventure in the Lyngen Alps with Francisco from Green Gold Of Norway. The program included hiking in snowshoes, night skiing, observing the northern lights, and staying in an unusual habitat. A truly unforgettable experience that I recommend to everyone!
The Lyngen Alps massif is located in the Scandinavian Alps range, an hour and a half by van and boat from Tromso. There are these mountains and snowy fjords that stretch out of sight, landscapes that are simply spectacular and grandiose… That’s the appeal of the great North!
We left the port of Tromso at 9:00 in the morning, and I took the opportunity to admire the immaculate scenery through the van’s windshield while listening to Bon Iver in my headphones. The further we get from Tromso, the fewer houses become visible, giving way to the immense expanse. After about forty minutes of driving, we arrived at a pier where a sea shuttle awaited to take us to the other bank. On board, we can have a snack, take a moment to rest on the couches to admire the scenery passing by. Before my coffee even finished (and I needed it!) it’s time to get back to the van for the final leg of the journey. Only 30 minutes left and we’re almost at Franciso’s house and his little family!
Once we reach the end of the world, alone and far from everything, we are left speechless… We discover a large and magnificent white house that blends in with the scenery, located on the edge of the sea, and offers breathtaking views of the fjords and the mountains!
Immediately, our host made us feel at ease by introducing us to his family and immediately offered to put on snowshoes so we could go for a nice hike in the snowy forest. Our eyes were filled with wonder, we were amazed, and we gained height to enjoy the magnificent panoramas; in short, it was pure bliss!
Thanks to having our heads held high, we even managed to get lost, but that’s good! 2.30 hours later we’re back home for lunch and that lunch will be a delicious, rejuvenating soup for everyone.
After the meal, Francisco accompanies us to drop off our backpacks at the place where we were going to sleep that same evening… And there was a surprise: we were excited like kids! We discovered a beautiful wooden hut with a glass roof to admire the stars and the northern lights! Inside there are two beds on each side, and in the center, a wood stove with all the necessary supplies to keep the fire going during the night. Francisco even advised us to wake up in turn every hour to feed it.
It is 4:00 PM, and it is already sunset… His flight across the sky is so low that you have the impression of experiencing this magical moment all day long; the colors are magnificent, it is quite amazing to see! It is also the perfect opportunity to bring out your camera to enjoy this beautiful light and photograph this wonderful scenery…
A little later we went behind the house to collect some cardboard and wooden pallets for recycling, and we prepared a beautiful campfire on the water to add an extra magical touch. The show was wonderful and we all three took away a great memory!
At nightfall we set off to go snowmobiling through the forest, then reaching a high snowy plateau located a few kilometers from the house. An unusual nocturnal outing! I had the chance to try snowmobiling last year during my trip to Iceland And I have an unforgettable memory of it; the sensations are great. This time the experience takes place at night and we are lucky enough to have it. to observe the northern lights The phenomenon lasted for less time than the day before (about fifteen minutes instead of an hour), but the intensity of the northern lights was this time much more significant. I was completely amazed and mesmerized by the beauty of the spectacle!
Back at the camp, we got rid of our snowy coats, helmets and all the equipment to reach our hut. We hoped to have enough wood left over before going snowmobiling so that when we returned the fire would still be lit. In short, it was borderline! Once we were settled in, we took the opportunity to look at the starry sky one last time before we fell exhausted.
The next morning, after a bit of a wake-up call, we set off to admire the view over the fjords, then we went to have breakfast before heading back on snowmobiles to the same spot where we were the night before. This time we were able to enjoy it even more! More than an hour of pure madness on this vast snowy plateau from which we have breathtaking views over the fjords and the mountains, lost in the distance.
Early in the afternoon, we packed our bags for the return to Tromso… Already over… Wow, we’ll keep an indelible memory of this (very) short stay with Francisco; it was simply amazing. Unusual activities, an exceptional wilderness setting, unique accommodation, an adorable family, and a passionate person who made us «experience Northern Norway.».
This 24-hour excursion in the Lyngen Alps costs a total of 2900 NOK, or €312, and includes meals, accommodation, and activities.

Hello,
Oh, I’m sorry that the experience didn’t go as well for us as it did for us. I remember that Francisco had also taken a leave and we took advantage of that to go for a nice hike in the mountains to get a magnificent view of the fjord. That evening there were only 5 tourists and we had dinner with Francisco, his wife and children… I’m disappointed for you… :-/ I’ll look on Trip Advisor to see if there are any similar reviews because that really isn’t right of him. Did you have the chance to see other northern lights during your stay?

Norway is truly beautiful… I was there last year and I’ll be back in two or three weeks: I’ll add Lyngen to my itinerary! Thanks for the discovery 😉

I’ve just returned from Tromso. After reading this blog, I chose to go on a tour with Green Gold of Norway. We did the tour with them. However, it has nothing to do with a family welcome for Francisco and the little white house is right on the road… Francisco accompanied us to this house before leaving to go to his family. So we were alone for 4 hours before other tourists arriving from Tromso arrived to have dinner with us. At the end of the evening we saw Francisco reappear who we didn’t see again before our departure. He didn’t come to say goodbye or anything else. In conclusion, yes it is indeed the end of the world and if you are lucky enough to see the northern lights, it is magical but don’t expect a super welcome or even a family dinner. Francisco is there for business and to make the most of tourists. For those interested, think carefully before spending such a large amount of money….
