5-Day Itinerary in Northern Italy from Milan
Hello travelers! Today we’re taking you with us to Europe and more specifically to my country: ITALY!
Planning your trip in the north of Italy is super exciting but it can be overwhelming. There are so many things to visit all over the country, and the northern part is no exception. We are here to help you plan the best road trip in the north of Italy. For all your trips in Italy, you can use the service of rail.ninja, for example for a trip train Milan Venice.
Day 1 – Milan
Our first recommendation is that you start your stay in Milan because it’s a city that is super well located, very central in northern Italy. A great starting point for a road trip! In Milan, of course, we like to start with a cappuccino near the Duomo Square, do some shopping in the trendy boutiques, walk through the Victor Emmanuel II gallery and take some beautiful photos, stroll through Sempione Park, take the tram, spend the evening in the very cool neighborhoods of Navigli. That’s all we like to do in Milan!
Day 2 – Guard Lake
It’s time to head to Lake Garda. The largest lake in Italy and Europe! Many people say that the lake is less spectacular than Lake Como, but it’s still an essential stop on any trip to this region.
Lake Garda is known for its beautiful historic villages and also for its beautiful scenery. You can also visit the villages of Garda and Sirmione. Sirmione is a historic town on a peninsula on the edge of the lake and offers a wonderful view.
Day 3 – Verona
After your stay at Lake Garda, you can head to Verona. This medieval city is ideal for a day trip. Verona is world-renowned as the city of love. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet story takes place in Verona. And although Romeo and Juliet is a fictional love story, it is possible to visit Juliet’s house. Millions of tourists visit this renowned place every year.
Fortunately, there is much more to see in Verona; some of the famous sites are Castelvecchio, Ponte Vecchio and the Verona Arena. The Verona Arena is one of the best-preserved amphitheaters in the world. Built in 30 AD and still used today as a concert hall.
Days 4 and 5 – Venice
It’s impossible to visit Italy without visiting the famous Venice! To fully enjoy this city, I recommend arriving early in the morning because you have to realize that it’s a very touristy city! Here’s a typical day:
Having breakfast at Florian place St Marc, visiting the Doges Palace, taking a gondola ride, strolling to the Rialto Bridge, eating a pizza by the water, taking the boat to Burano, staying there for 2 hours, coming back to the center of Venice, going for an aperitif at the Hotel Danieli, a palace with an extraordinary view, finding a small restaurant in the small streets and finally coming to have an ice cream in the evening on St Marc square 😉 If you want more information I wrote an article about it Romantic trip to Venice

With this itinerary, you’ll already have plenty to enjoy northern Italy and we guarantee that you won’t have time to get bored. Don’t forget to also enjoy the famous Italian cuisine during your stay and… Grazie mille.

When I went to Milan (it’s been a while now), I didn’t really like the city. But your article made me want to go back there. Besides, I don’t know very well the area: it will be a good opportunity to discover it. Thanks for the photos!
