Road trip: the best destinations in Europe

You too, confinement has given you a lot of anxiety? Personally, the eight weeks we spent locked up have made me dream of travel, freedom, and the great outdoors more than ever. And since most non-European borders are closed for an indefinite period, I thought this might be the perfect opportunity to explore the idea of a road trip in Europe! Once I found the van and secured car insurance, I made a selection of must-visit destinations. Here are a few of them!

Albania in the Balkans

I can see you opening your big eyes in astonishment from here. Yes, Albania is undoubtedly one of the countries I’m sure to visit during my road trip! Still unknown to the general public, Albania has the advantage of retaining its authenticity! Just like its neighbor Croatia a few years ago, it will delight backpackers who, like me, prefer wild landscapes and accessible populations. No more beach resorts and tour operators! Moreover, the diversity of landscapes promises its share of daily excitement on a road trip.

The only drawback of this country: the roads are really not in good condition. That’s all the more reason to follow my advice: Ensure the safety of your vehicle !

Iceland, between fire and ice

Glaciers, the Northern Lights, volcanoes… All these words make you travel just by mentioning them? Me too! That’s why I recommend that you visit Iceland during your road trip. As you probably know, this country is an island! You can rent a car or van right there on leaving the airport.

The advantage of Iceland for a road trip, in addition to the scenery worthy of a movie set, is its size. This country/island is six times smaller than France, which makes it a good place to visit in a short time. In my opinion, the ideal plan is to spend about 2 days in Reykjavik before heading out to explore the island in 10 days. The Icelandic capital has many museums, cultural activities, and shops that will make you happy before the big departure.

France, to play at home

Surprise… As you can see in my posts, France is also full of destinations worth visiting, and I can only recommend them to you! It would be too long to detail here all the corners of our beautiful country that are worth discovering, but know that there is something for everyone: city, countryside, sea, mountains... Everyone should find something to their liking! A road trip in France is not only guaranteed relaxation close to home; it also allows you to support our tourism professionals, who have been hit hard by the current health crisis.

Although I can’t, in a single post, list all the destinations that make me dream about a road trip in Europe, I hope I have given you some good ideas for planning your own project. Confirmed?
