What steps to take to prepare for a PTV in Canada
How about going to Canada for 2 years? The project makes more than one person dream about it, and for good reason. Canada is the second country outside the European Union, after the United States, to welcome French citizens in large numbers. It is worth mentioning that this country has everything to offer: an extreme climate, very dynamic cities, and one of the best quality of life in the world (poutine and maple syrup certainly have something to do with that…). But to hope to spend that long time in this magnificent country, you will need to obtain your PVT, or Work and Holiday Permit. So in this article we will explain what steps you need to take to obtain your PVT Canada.
PVT Canada: The first steps
Let’s start at the beginning: first of all, you need to go to the Canadian authorities“ website to create your GC key if you don’t already have one. This will allow you to identify yourself on Canadian government websites. Next, you’ll be asked to create a passport. Start by submitting a new application on ”International Experience Canada” to see if you’re eligible. You’ll then be asked several personal questions; you may need your birth certificate for some of them. Once completed, you’ll be asked to submit the application and you’ll automatically be added to one or more pool of candidates.
Waiting for an invitation to apply for the PVT Canada
This step is very simple since all you have to do is… wait! The selection is a random draw, but you may never be drawn. You are automatically re-enrolled every time you are not selected during an invitation round and this continues until the end of the season. On the other hand, if you are lucky enough to be drawn, you will receive an invitation to submit a PVT application within 10 days. If you accept it, you have 20 days to fill out a new form (spouse, country of residence, if any, contact information, medical and judicial history, immigration, employment, and educational history over the last 10 years) with the required documents and pay the participation fee of 338 Canadian dollars.
Submit your application for the PVT Canada
Shortly after completing the previous steps, you will receive the information necessary to provide your biometric data to the Canada Visa Application Centre (CRDV) closest to you. You then have 30 days after receiving the information to complete this step. Do not forget your passport or the printed invitation when you go to the CRDV.
All that remains for you is to wait and receive, within 8 weeks, a letter confirming or denying the issuance of your PVT. Rest assured that refusals are very rare. You then only have to travel to Canada within 12 months to activate your Work and Holiday Permit. Have a good trip!
