Bucketlist: to visit the Okinawa province in Japan

Among the series of trips that particularly inspire me is Japan! Moreover, I love following the adventures of travelers who visit it on social media and in blogs. Many cities fascinate me, such as Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Koja San, Nikoko, Osaka, Hiroshima, but there is also the province of Okinawa, that archipelago composed of 160 islands (49 of which are inhabited) located in the southwest of Japan, often forgotten by visitors… And yet, it seems that this Pacific archipelago is full of wonders and the scenery is quite contrasting. I also learned that it is the region of the world where the most centenarians live and where longevity is the most important factor! At the same time, all the necessary conditions are in place to enjoy a healthy and peaceful life… This «Tropical Hawaii» is known for its unique way of life (Nuchigusui), its tropical fauna and flora, its gentle temperatures, its islands lined with white sand beaches and surrounded by a turquoise sea, its underwater biodiversity, but also its unique cultural and historical heritage, somewhat different from that of megacities like Tokyo.

By browsing the web, here is the list of things to see and do that I was able to find. Do you agree? What else would you recommend?

– Visit the remains of the ancient kingdom of Ryukyu to better understand the history of the archipelago: the Kudakajima and Utaki sanctuaries, the Gusuku sites (castles and ruins), the Shuri castle.

– Enjoy the beauty of the deep sea by diving on the island of Zamami, located 50 minutes by boat from the Port of Tomari in Naha, on the main island of Okinawa. It seems that whales can be observed there from January to March. Other must-see places to enjoy paradise beaches are the islands of Kerama and Nagannu. 300 km southwest of Okinawa there is also the island of Miyako, a small paradise on Earth, just like the Yaeyama Islands located about a fifteen-minute boat ride from Ishigaki Island.

– Enjoy the local cuisine, renowned for its excellent quality for our body!

– Admire the starry sky and the Milky Way in the surroundings of Ishigaki Island, as there is almost no light pollution. The ideal place for astro-photography enthusiasts and dreamers alike!

– Hiking in the lush forest of Yambaru National Park is an opportunity to reconnect with nature and feel in total harmony.

– Learning Karate at Okinawa Karate Kaikan. I also learned that this martial art known worldwide originated from the archipelago.

– Relax and have fun on the main island of Okinawa: all kinds of leisure activities (water sports, sports, golf, SPA, etc.)
