Weekend in Paris: Experiencing Euro 2016 as a couple

Last June 10, we took advantage of the opening match of the 2016 Euro Cup France – Romania to take a new quick getaway as a couple, discovering Paris for the first time.

Well, we’ll admit it, we’re not big fans of the round ball, but watching the opening match of the European Championship, especially at the Stade de France, is a unique moment to live once in a lifetime! Like any true football fan, we only follow the important football matches, but this one had a special flavor; we were going to support our team in this mythical opening match… It was the first time we went to the Stade de France and the experience itself is really great. We’ll be back there later 😉

Anyone who says a football match in the capital also means a visit and discovery of new neighborhoods. Even though time was short, we took the opportunity to meet our friend Kylia from the blog Stylistic, with whom Thibault had gone Blog trip in Guadeloupe Last year. She showed us the charm of her neighborhood in the 11th arrondissement, as well as the hidden corners of Rue de Charonne and the Faubourg Saint Antoine. We loved the «village» atmosphere that emanates from there… We walk through the doors and discover beautiful small green courtyards, passages where artisans, architects, artists and original boutiques of creators are located. A little gem…

Every weekend in Paris is also the opportunity to take new walks and discover beautiful wonders! Here are some of them that I recently discovered:

The Rue Crémieux

It’s hard to imagine Paris! With its beautiful colorful houses, Crémieux Street attracts many visitors. It’s almost like you’re in the Notting Hill neighborhood in London.

Around Montmartre

It was while strolling through our friend Juliette’s blog that I came across this I don't know how to choose, We discovered a wonderful walk in the Montmartre neighborhood for couples. Old stone buildings, charming and colorful streets, lively squares—the ideal neighborhood to disconnect in the heart of Paris.

Time for sports! It’s time to head to Saint Denis to prepare before attending the opening match of Euro 2016! We have packed our bags and are ready to go! Novotel, We were at the hotel located just a few meters from the Stade de France, and we met two other couples of friends, also travel bloggers, with whom we were going to spend this wonderful evening. There were Pauline and Benoit from the blog Worldelse as well as Claudia and Clément from the blog A tour of Earth

With our tickets in hand, wearing tricolor makeup on our faces, we are now ready to go to the match! As we get closer to the stadium, the atmosphere gets louder and the excitement is felt everywhere. Once we passed through security, here we are… We head towards the stands, and there – surprise! What emotion! Wow… We find ourselves inside this gigantic arena and words are hard to find to describe the sensation we feel… There is such energy once inside the stadium, it is truly impressive! But the most exciting moment remains the moment of the national anthem… We have rarely felt such a surge of patriotism and seeing the entire crowd in a frenzy singing the Marseillaise really warms our hearts.

And then the moment of truth arrives! Here we go! Throughout the match, we support the Blues, we get excited every time a goal is scored, we chant the chants of the supporters, and it must be said, even though we are just amateur football fans, we live the moment to the fullest! The first half was relatively difficult, but it was during the second half that everything was decided! A first goal by Giroud in the 57th minute, then a Romanian equalizer in the 65th minute… The suspense is at its peak… But it is Payet who scores the final goal in the 89th minute, giving us this beautiful victory for France! We have never seen so much enthusiasm during that last goal! Everyone is screaming, hugging each other, waving the tricolor flags, in short, a truly unforgettable moment to live once in a lifetime!

We are delighted to have been able to experience this unique experience as a couple and we will certainly be seeing more matches if the opportunity arises! Since that opening match, France has been on a winning streak! 2-0 against Albania, 2-1 against Ireland and a crushing 5-2 victory against Iceland… One thing is for sure: on July 7th we will be right in the heart of the Fan Zone in Nice to watch the Germany – France match and support our Blues!
