Lake Como: The best for the end!
And here is the third and final step of our road-trip 4-day trips to the major Italian lakes: Lake Como, and more specifically the region of Bellagio.
A little reminder: the day before, at the end of the day (Previous article), we were crossing the Grand Lake by boat from Locarno to Baveno and the weather wasn’t on our side… It was raining so much that we decided to leave the tent behind for «2 seconds» and we preferred to find a hostel or a small hotel at the last minute on Bellagio on Lake Como !

After 2 hours of driving on the narrow and winding roads which connect the Great Lake in Lake Como, We have arrived at our destination safely. Hooray! We searched for hotels on booking.fr and as expected, the hostels were fully booked and the hotel rooms were relatively expensive. We checked into the hotel at 10:00 PM. Mira Lago, a small 2-star friendly place, very pleasant, run by a very welcoming mother of a family. We paid 90€ for the night, but we have a great memory of the breakfast…. Gigantic : homemade cakes, wide selection of local specialties, etc… Hmm.

The view when waking up …
There you have it, the sun is back! We don’t waste a minute and set off to explore the region. The hotel manager advises us to start the day by admiring the most beautiful panoramic view of Lake Como, in the hills of Bellagio. There you will also find the Church dedicated to «Our Lady of Ghisallo», patron saint of cyclists. They usually visit it on Sundays, following the narrow and steep roads that connect the shores of the lake to the highest point. What a view! It is breathtaking…

Next we go to visit the heart of Bellagio, Its shaded squares, its colorful alleys, its terraces by the lake, etc… A treat…
In the afternoon, we bought a one-day pass (15€/person) to get around. boat From Bellagio to Menaggio, from Menaggio to Varenna, then back to Bellagio. Each town has its own charm, and we were seduced by the tranquility that reigns there… We would have stayed there for 4 or 5 days to make the most of this exceptional region.

In the evening we resume the journey again under the rain to Milan to enjoy our last evening. Once the suitcases are deposited in a hotel apartment, we head towards the «Navigli» district to party. The next day, return to Cannes, by taking a short break at Serravalle, the factory stores (avoid unless during sales 😉

Hello, I’m going there in the last week of August near Lenno; it should be nice weather!!!
I recommend you to stay in the Lariano triangle, the heart of the lake, especially near Menaggio, so that you can use the boat and leave the car as often as possible. From there, you can go to Bellagio, Varrena, Lenno or Tremezzo (for Villa Carlotta). That’s what we do almost every summer.

Beautiful photos… with a few rays of sunshine, it’s even better!! I think I’ll follow your itinerary and not miss Bellagio! And I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for the sun….
Bravo!!!! I am always very impressed by the way the articles are written with a genuine pedagogical approach. With the quality of information on websites becoming rare, I still extend my congratulations
