Trip to Copenhagen from Toulon Hyères Airport
A month ago I was leaving for a week-long trip to rediscover Copenhagen From the airport in Toulon Hyères, which had just opened a new route to the Danish capital with the airline SAS. The perfect opportunity to once again enjoy Copenhagen, one of my favorite cities in Europe!
Did you know that Copenhagen is considered the city of happiness, the one where its inhabitants are the happiest in the world? Only those who have been there can confirm that! This city is full of wonders; I love the way of life, the taste for design, decoration and architecture, but also the charm of the different neighborhoods of the capital and the kindness of the people. You remember, I already talked about it in an old article My must-haves and favorites in Copenhagen . 3 years later, I’m still excited to spend a few days in the capital of happiness!
I left from Toulon Hyères Airport With sunny weather and 2.30 hours later I arrived with an equally remarkable weather condition. I was so anxious looking at the local weather condition day after day, but in the end I spent a little dream week under the Danish sun. In fact, it’s quite surprising to see how the behavior of the locals changes completely when there’s even a little bit of sunshine. Everyone goes to the parks to have a picnic, on the terraces of the bars, and the shops are closed. Nyhavn (the beautiful colorful port of the capital) or strolling along the banks of the canals in the neighborhood Christianshavn.

My must-see places in Copenhagen
- Nyhavn The small port of the capital, known for its buildings with colorful façades, its old boats, and its many bars and restaurants. It’s THE postcard of Copenhagen, but it’s also the most touristy part of the capital... It’s nice to have a drink on the terrace, but avoid staying there for lunch or dinner.

- Christianshavn I really enjoy walking along the canals, but I also like to cycle to the unusual district of Christiania and then head all the way north to the Mikkeler brewery. The beer there is expensive but really delicious.
- Kødbyen A sort of meatpacking district where food wholesalers, refrigerated trucks with trendy bars and restaurants coexist, not to mention architectural firms, design studios, etc… A must-see!
- Kongens Have : a relaxing break for those who want to enjoy the sunny park and have a little picnic; or why not take a nap?
- Palace Amalienborg At noon on the main square of the former winter palace, you can watch the changing of the guard.

- The garden of Tivoli One of the oldest amusement parks in the world, built in 1843. It features old rides, restaurants, shops, and unusual and traditional stands, not to mention outdoor theaters. Don’t miss it for Halloween and Christmas; the decorations are magical.

- The little mermaid Well, as I said in the video, it’s the symbol of Copenhagen, but even if it’s worth seeing, it’s not really transcendent either, especially since there are hundreds of tourists! However, don’t miss the chance to visit Kastellet, an ancient military fortress shaped like a star.

Getting around in Copenhagen
To get around Copenhagen, nothing beats cycling! With more than 350km of cycling paths, the city is considered one of the safest and most convenient places in the world to get around. Expect to pay around 12€/day
You can also take the metro, bus, boat, and train to discover the city, but the easiest way is to get the Copenhagen Card, which allows you to use all these means of transport for free and unlimited, without forgetting the access included in nearly 86 attractions in Copenhagen, including the Tivoli Gardens and many museums. Convenient if you stay for less than 3 days.
To easily find my way around the city, I used Google Map, which showed me the fastest routes depending on the modes of transport.
Accommodations
To be done!
This time I packed my bags right in the heart of the capital at the hotel. The Square. The facade is nothing special, but the reception, the rooms, and the services provided by the hotel are superb. I had a spacious and comfortable room on the 6th and last floor of the hotel with a large terrace offering a beautiful view of the square in front of the city hall (Københavns Rådhus). I rented a bike at the hotel reception (12€/day) to explore my favorite neighborhoods. Thanks to the magnetic key in the room, you can access a lounge area on the top floor of the hotel where you can have a snack and enjoy free drinks. As for the breakfast? It was great 🙂 A wide selection of pastries, fruit juices, cheeses, vegetables & fruits, and many more.
Run away!
At the end of my stay I stayed one night at the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel. There was noise all night until 4 AM, the electronic locks of all the rooms didn’t work (including mine of course), and there were bed bugs! However, there are good reviews on booking sites… Maybe it wasn’t my day… 3 years ago I went to the Generator hostel and it was much better!
Discover Copenhagen and other destinations from Toulon Hyères Airport
As I was telling you at the beginning of the article, the Toulon Hyères airport has opened its new line to Copenhagen with the airline Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and I even got to participate in the inaugural flight! Anyway, this is great news for everyone who lives in the Var and the Bouches du Rhône… [A little tribute to my father (based in Marseille), who had to travel all the way to Nice to catch the plane to Copenhagen 😀]
The airport in Toulon is growing more and more by regularly offering new services. New direct lines for destinations such as: Oran, Copenhagen, Brussels, Rotterdam, Southampton, Geneva, Ajaccio, Bastia, Bordeaux, Brest, Lille, Paris and Strasbourg.
In terms of practicalities, the airport is located 10 minutes from Hyères and 25 minutes from the city center of Toulon. You can get there by car and park it on one of the two airport parking lots or to go there by bus from the SNCF train station in Toulon with the N° 102.

Bravo for this article! Superkilen looks great!! I didn’t see it during my visit to Copenhagen! It’ll give me an idea if I go back to Denmark! As well as the Tivoli Gardens that opened the day after I left (for the Halloween period +!). Did you have a chance to try it?
