citizenM, the 100% connected hype hotel for digital nomads

A concept and a mindset quite unique, contemporary, arty and high-end decor, completely innovative customer experiences, surprising rooms, living spaces adapted to the needs of new travelers, important communication with a quirky tone, luxury at affordable prices, in short, this hotel group It really has everything to seduce you!

Until now, I have only «swore» allegiance to the Generator Hotels where I often went when I took city breaks in Europe, but now it’s time for citizenM. I’m addicted to it! I’ll tell you a little more about the group. There are currently 13 citizenM hotels worldwide, present in Paris, London, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Rotterdam, New York and Taipei, in the most trendy and dynamic neighborhoods. I’ve had first-hand feedback from friends who went to the London one in the Shoreditch neighborhood; it seems fantastic! The concept was designed around the «new way» of traveling for customers, whether for leisure or work.

15 days ago, I had the opportunity to spend a night at the citizenM Gare de Lyon, just before flying to Bahrain for the Forum des Pionniers, a pro event that brought together travel industry decision-makers. Here is my experience report following my short stay at the citizenM.

citizenM says: reading this paragraph takes longer than your check-in

As soon as I arrived at citizenM, I saw a huge 4-meter-high banner on the approach to the journey… Quite a surprise and a nice way to start. I then arrived at the reception on the first floor and realized that there was no big front desk like the one I was used to where customers patiently wait for their turn to check in. No, this first step was done in less than 30 seconds using computers that allow you to find your reservation and activate your magnetic key.

Before I went upstairs to deposit my suitcase in the room, I couldn’t help but take a look at the various living spaces (all very large), such as the living rooms, the work areas, the bar, and even the small patio… It was flawless… Honestly, I didn’t expect to see such a well-executed decor and concept. There are beautiful decorative objects, contemporary artwork, very comfortable designer chairs and sofas, and lighting with lighting fixtures (designed by Vitra). I really had the impression of being in a 4-star hotel… And that’s not even counting the many hotels in this category that don’t offer these services! Don’t miss the chance to try the cocktails at the bar; they’re delicious… There’s also a refrigerated showcase and a counter for buying snacks, sandwiches, fruits, and more. As for the breakfast, although it’s advertised as 14.90€, I can assure you that it’s really worth it! There is a wide selection of pastries, fresh juices, yogurt, sweets and savory foods; in short, you will be as surprised as I am 🙂

In the work spaces, there are beautiful offices equipped with iMacs, sofas for hosting partners, and other rooms that can be privatized to hold meetings: you can brainstorm, work, get inspired, create, etc. The ideal work environment that combines comfort and creativity.

Well, after my quick discovery of the living spaces, it’s time to discover the citizenM room. I was really surprised at how well they can arrange and optimize a small space while still maintaining comfort and a nice, fresh and modern decor! There is only one type of room: a double room. At least that’s simple!
Heartwarming moments for:
– The comfortable king size bed
– The iPad tablet that allows you to control everything in the room: the light intensity and temperature of the room, the electric shutters, the TV, the music (via your iTunes account), the wake-up theme, and above all: the color of the shower!
– The two types of shower gels: citizen AM which boosts your morning routine and citizen PM which soothes your evening routine!
– USB sockets and ports on both sides of the bed (convenient!)
– The wifi is free and unlimited throughout the hotel
– The room card/magnetic key also allows you to pay for purchases anywhere in the hotel (bar, etc…)

 

Well, you’ve probably noticed by now that I really enjoyed this hotel and it’s truly flawless! The value for money is excellent. As for the rates, expect around 110€ for a night at the citizenM Gare de Lyon. The location is ideal since it’s right next to Lyon train station, convenient for exploring the capital, but also about twenty kilometers from the Disneyland Paris.

The citizenM Paris La Défense hotel

The hotel is located in the heart of the Défense district in Paris, just a short walk from the arch, the esplanade and the metro stations (RER A, metro line 1).

Price: The prices are more attractive on weekends because the business district is deserted. Expect to pay around 90€ per night. citizenM La Défense

The citizenM Paris Roissy CDG hotel

The hotel is located a 2-minute walk from Terminal 3 at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and the Roissypole train station. 
A big plus: quick access to the airport and to CDG Val, which connects to all terminals.
Price: Overall, prices are more attractive on weekends. You can expect to pay between €90 and €150 per night, depending on demand. More information on the website citizenM Paris Roissy CDG
