We tested: Destination Canada’s custom route generator!
Destination Canada asked us to test it New platform allowing to generate a personalized itinerary To discover « his » Canada, the one that corresponds to his way of traveling, to his desires, and we must admit that we were quite impressed and amazed by this original and playful inspiration engine! Once there, there are numerous possibilities to discover a region of Canada and one of the most popular ones remains a self-guided tour. There are many agencies that offer this type of service, such as Canada in freedom, You might find your happiness there 🙂
Well, we took the liberty of using this inspiration engine and tried to make compromises regarding our respective desires to create a route that suits both of us. Let’s explain the operation a little more in detail. At the beginning, we arrive at a (nicely illustrated) map of Canada and we just have to choose our starting point from among about twenty cities present on the map. We only know Montreal, But after following many blogger trips across the country, we really want to start the itinerary from the wildlands of the West, in the Yukon, more specifically!

Click on Whitehorse, the capital of the province, and the quiz begins. For each of the four questions, there is a gauge that you can set according to your preferences. For example, the first step is to decide whether you prefer a «laid-back» or «sporty« vacation. It’s hard to answer when you’re two people, even though Capu and I have almost the same expectations when it comes to travel. Okay, let’s not rest constantly after all; we leave the gauge in the middle: «After the effort, comfort… A good balance.«.

After the question about the pace, let’s move on to the comfort: rather than «Spartiate or high class? Ah ah… On the one hand, some destinations are worth staying for one or two nights in exceptional establishments; on the other hand, here in Canada, the question is less pressing; we opt for the «Rustic option, it’s more off-putting»
Then we are asked if we are more «urban or nature-oriented»? Once again, for a destination like Canada, renowned for its spectacular natural scenery, the question does not arise and we choose «Absolutely nature; I want large open spaces…»
Finally, the final step, we are asked about the duration of the stay: one, two or three weeks? If it were up to me, I would say 3 weeks, or even a month! But we are two, Capucine is a freelance nurse in addition to blogging, and compromises have to be made… So, boom, we choose 2 weeks; that’s already not bad, right?
There you go, we have our itinerary on the final page and we are quite delighted with the places and activities selected thanks to the algorithm! The program includes kayaking down the Yukon River in Whitehorse, boarding the legendary White Pass & Yukon Route train, hiking in Kluane National Park, a helicopter flight over the glaciers of Kluane National Park, discovering Dawson City, immersing yourself in the alpine tundra of the Yukon, and many more! Okay, we’re leaving soon because it really looks like fun?! Once the suggested itinerary is displayed, if you click on one of the places or activities you can get more information by visiting the corresponding tourism office website…
This concept created by the advertising agency of the Le Monde group is truly original, playful, and completely out of the ordinary compared to what we’re used to seeing on a tourism office website! Moreover, we immediately felt like trying this inspiration engine again with different criteria or starting cities to discover new itineraries! To go even further, we would have really liked the platform to eventually generate a 20-30 second mini-video composed of sequences that correspond to the desires of each traveler 🙂
If you would also like to try the platform and generate your customized itinerary, see you here !

Indeed, a very nice initiative by Destination Canada. For your information, the same service exists in the USA, on the website https://trip-planner.visittheusa.com/ The only minor drawback is that the site is only available in English. Aside from that, it is also very well made.
