We tested: the DanHostel in Copenhagen
During our first night in Copenhagen we were invited to try out the youth hostel Danhostel, Located in the heart of the capital in a modern building with about fifteen floors, offering exceptional panoramic views of the city center. With a total of 1020 beds, DanHostel is the largest youth hostel in Europe!
We arrived at the hostel around midnight and were greeted by Charles, a very nice French receptionist who, after completing the check-in formalities, immediately gave us a wealth of information to discover the best of Copenhagen and its most authentic, unusual, and atypical places. The hostel’s lobby is very spacious and the atmosphere is very friendly with the other travelers. There is a bar, vending machines for drinks, and many tables for sitting down and working. However, we regret the lack of effort in decorating the hostel, making it somewhat conventional…
The double room booked was correct, clean, and the bedding was comfortable. Since we were on the 12th floor, we had a beautiful view of the Tivoli garden and the roofs of the old buildings in the center of Copenhagen.
In the morning, we went to one of the hostel’s main rooms to enjoy a good, varied and hearty breakfast. The opportunity to prepare Smorrebrods, these typical Danish sandwiches/tarts made from rye bread on which salmon and herring are placed. A treat!
The rates are interesting since a bed in a dorm costs 20€ per person and a double room for 2 people with shower costs about 65€. The hostel also has rooms that can accommodate families up to 5 people. Internet is available free of charge throughout the hotel. There is the possibility to rent bicycles from Danhostel, which is convenient for getting around Copenhagen. I spent a few nights there during a school trip with my architecture school a few years ago. I found the hostel well equipped, the beds comfortable, the view superb, but the location was not great, just a minor negative point!

It’s true that the hostel isn’t in the center, but we had the advantage of being close to the train station and the metro, so it didn’t bother us at all!
