Marrakech: Discovering the Majorelle Garden
The title well sums up the feeling one gets when taking a tour of the garden. Majorelle, a haven of peace where the mythical residence of’Yves Saint Laurent and de Pierre Bergé, who contributed to the fame of this enchanting, peaceful, timeless place, yet in the heart of the frenetic bustle of the red city.
Once you walk through the front door, all your senses are stimulated.
We are surprised by the calm that prevails there; we admire varieties of extraordinary plants whose origins alone make us dream: South Pacific, East Africa, India, etc…
In the shaded alleys dotted here and there giant cacti and bamboo, Along the water paths with their refreshing murmurs and the air with its sweet fragrances completely captivate you. And there are those colors… If you're alive! Beyond the lush and verdant vegetation, there is of course the color of this Art Deco-style house, a vivid and unique blue that is defined as Majorelle Blue...
Because he is the painter Jacques Majorelle who was the creator of this little paradise. In 1923 he bought the house that he converted into a workshop and it was through his travels that he imported these magnificent plants in order to enrich his garden. Because in the end, his most beautiful work is there, His garden.
The Majorelle garden is a sublime tableau that we keep admiring every time we visit Marrakech. And it is undoubtedly this that attracted Saint Laurent and Bergé, to the point of fully committing themselves to safeguarding this garden of Eden… By the way, a little anecdote: after Saint Laurent’s death, Pierre Bergé fought to ensure that real estate developers did not build 20-story buildings overlooking the garden… After a long, hopeless battle, he decided to buy up the surrounding land…

I didn’t visit the Majorelle Gardens during my stay in Marrakech. Looking at the photos, I may have been wrong. It’s okay, it’ll be a chance to go back there 🙂

It’s a beautiful place. I went there in 2002 and was completely captivated. I see that the blue is still present everywhere. Superb.
