Martinique is a destination I particularly love for the diversity of its landscapes. Between the white sandy beaches of the south, the smaller, more wild coves, and the volcanic landscapes of the north, the island offers very different atmospheres from one beach to the next.

L’anse Couleuvre
Located near the commune of Preacher, At the foot of Mount Pelée, Anse Couleuvre is one of those places where you really feel like you are far from everything.
This black sand beach is located in a particularly wild and lush environment. Here, there are no large resorts or long rows of restaurants: people come mainly to enjoy the natural surroundings and the very different atmosphere from the beaches in the south of the island.
The contrast between the dark volcanic sand, the lush vegetation and the sea is magnificent.
If you like observing the seabed, be sure to bring your binoculars. palms, mask and tuba. It’s also a good idea to bring some water and everything you’ll need to spend a few hours there, because the atmosphere is much more wild there.

The Salines Beach
If you're looking for postcard-worthy scenery, head to St. Anne, In the south of Martinique, to discover the famous beach of Salines.
A long beach of fine sand bordered by coconut trees, a turquoise sea, and that typical Caribbean landscape that you come to seek in Martinique: it’s hard not to be captivated by it.
This is one of the most well-known beaches on the island and, of course, one of the busiest. If you’re looking for more tranquility, I recommend avoiding the busiest times and days, especially the weekends.
I especially enjoy walking along the beach rather than staying in the same place. By moving a little further forward, you can find quieter corners and enjoy the scenery more fully.

Dufour Bay and Black Bay
Located in the commune of Anses-d’Arlet, These two small beaches in the southwest of Martinique have the unique feature of being very close to each other, while offering two completely different landscapes.
Anse Dufour It is a pretty little beach of clear sand, surrounded by vegetation. I particularly enjoyed the local atmosphere and the opportunity to enjoy some fish croquettes prepared by the fishermen from the area right on the beach. A real treat!
Just next door, the Black Bay offers a more wild atmosphere. Its dark volcanic sand contrasts with that of Anse Dufour and the underwater scenery is particularly interesting.
If you like snorkeling, plan accordingly. palms, mask and tuba. This is really the kind of place where it would be a shame to stay solely on the sand.
The simplest thing is to plan for a half-day, or even a full day, to enjoy the two coves in peace.

The Diamond Beach
The Diamant beach is one of those that have left the most lasting impression on me due to its landscape.
It offers a magnificent view of the famous Diamond Rock, which breaks away from the coast and gives this part of the coast its very own personality.
The beach is immense, with several kilometers of sand, which makes it easy to find a quieter spot. It is also more exposed to the wind than some of the island’s smaller coves, and the sea can be rough on some days.
Therefore, it is necessary to be cautious when taking a bath and always take into account the sea conditions.
For a quiet day, I really like the idea of preparing a picnic and then enjoy the sand and the shade of the coconut trees.

From Sainte-Anne, head in the direction of Cap Chevalier and follow the directions to reach Anse Michel.
This very beautiful white-sand beach lined with coconut trees is particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts, especially those who enjoy surfing. kite surfers, Since the spot is well exposed to the wind.
I find Anse Michel an excellent alternative to the Salines. The landscape is equally beautiful, with the water changing from deep blue to turquoise, almost giving the impression of being in front of a lagoon.
And above all, the atmosphere can be much more pleasant if you are looking for a beach that is a bit less crowded.
As at Anse Dufour, you can also try some local specialties prepared by the locals. It’s these little details that I particularly enjoy during a trip: not only discovering the landscapes, but also taking the time to try the specialties and enjoy the local atmosphere.
For me, Anse Michel deserves its place among the The most beautiful beaches in Martinique.

Sublime places. Personally, I know the island of Marice and the island of Réunion very well, but I have never been to Martinique. I need to fix that and spend a little time there. Could you tell me (if you remember), are the prices high there? Thank you in advance.
Indeed, these beaches are more than magnificent; a short trip to Martinique is in order this winter 🙂
Thanks for this lovely portrait of Madinina, a few kilometers from my home, the island of Papillon (Guadeloupe). I’ve only been to Martinique once, and I also really enjoyed the beach at Salines! 😉
Have a nice Sunday,
