Road Trip in Thailand, first review.

12 days we have been gone while traveling in Thailand… And things happened in 12 days!

One day of flying on the way +
1 day at Kuala Lumpur,
2 days at Bangkok,
1 day at Ayutthaya,
1 day at Chiang Mai,
2 days in Trekking in the jungle,
4 days to Koh Phi Phi

And we’re leaving to finish the stay on the island of Koh Lanta.

We carried out all our main overnight transports to save time:

  • Ayutthaya/Chiang Mai 14 hours by train
  • Chiang Mai/Bangkok + Bangkok/Krabi By plane: 3 hours by plane and 4 hours stopover in Bangkok
  • Krabi/Bangkok for the return on Monday evening, departure at 16:00 from Krabi, arrival at 6:00 in the morning … That’s still 14 hours of bus travel!
  • And finally 12 hours of flight to get back to Paris + 6 hours on the TGV to Cannes.

The mid-way point results are nothing short of spectacular Positive, Except for the budget, which was respected up to Phi Phi Island… That’s actually why we have to emigrate to Koh Lanta… Here, everything is extremely expensive compared to the rest of Thailand; you have to pay double!

We experienced many wonderful moments: the arrival in Bangkok, the smells, our hotel on Koa San Road, the first PadThaï, the visits to the temples, the 3rd class train, the visit to Ayutthaya by bike and discovering the temples at sunset, the night train to Chiang Mai, our great guesthouse in Chiang Mai, our first boxing match, the 2-day trek in the jungle on the border of Burma, the night in the village, the cooking classes, the arrival in Koh Phi Phi and Maya Bay, the snorkeling in transparent waters…

For the moment we haven’t had any problems; I’m getting along well, the trains and hotels weren’t booked in advance and we always found a quick solution without ever having to wait…

When it came to Thai cuisine, we tried almost all the specialties; we even brought back some recipes from our cooking classes 🙂

Here are the news for today: we take the boat at 11:30 to Koh Lanta, we plan to spend 3 nights there and spend another night on another island, to be continued!

Here are the photos from my iPhone while I’m waiting to download the photos from the reflex and the GoPro…

  • Great photos, I’m sorry I didn’t get to do the market by boat in Bangkok… I’ll have to go back for a change 🙂

  • Hello miss 🙂
I’m planning to visit Thailand with my children next April, and I see that you went there in April, so I’d like to ask you a question: how did you cope with the heat in the islands and in Chiang Mai (the city, not the trek I’m planning with the kids)?
I really hesitate about this destination because of that… I’m from the 13th, but I’m already having a hard time with our summers here… :/
Good trip to Australia, and happy belated birthday (I just saw it on Twitter!)

Hello! Thank you for your message 🙂
We both put up with the heat well, it’s quite different from the heatwaves we know in the south! We can only recommend going there anyway, it’s a wonderful destination:)
      See you soon!

  • Thanks for convincing me to go there during my next vacation in January. I was hesitating with Australia but your photos made the little genius «go for it»

  • It makes me want to go… I’ve decided I’ll go for my next vacation

  • Hello, I am planning my road trip in Thailand and I wanted to know if you have rented a car there? For the trek in the jungle, have you booked in advance or on site? And if you have any recommendations for must-see places or activities, please let me know. Thanks

  • How nostalgic I am when I see these photos 🙂 I was there 4 years ago, and all I can dream of is going back there!
