Discovering the temples of Ayutthaya by bike
Here is the second step of our trip in Thailand
To join Ayutthaya we had taken the train to Bangkok, a ticket in 3rd class is just around the corner (price 15 bath : 0.35 €) and off we go!
Wooden seats, parquet in the soWe are the only backpackers on board among the monks and locals! We did meet a couple of backpackers though who have been in Southeast Asia for 2 months, and they advised us to take the time to visit the surrounding countries. They started with a trip to Vietnam, then Cambodia, and Laos to finally end up in Thailand… The dream… Next year it will be our turn, I hope! By the way, if you are also still looking to plan your trip, you can find a wealth of information on the forums to create your own itinerary or visit specialized sites like Routes of Thailand, You might find your happiness there.
Well, 1h45 minutes later, we are at the station from Ayutthaya. The next departure for Chiang Mai It's at 21:00 (13 hours on a sleeper train for 800 bath each, that’s 20€)
So we had a day to discover AYUTTHAYA…
We had our suitcases deposited at the police station at the train station, which was very convenient for a quiet and safe visit!
Some readers had advised us to We rented bicycles, we found them quickly, right in front of the station, for 30 bath/day. Less than €1!
We spent the day cycling; the route is very pleasant, fantastic and calming.
The monuments from Ayutthaya They were better than in my imagination. It has to be said that with the sunset at the same time … the place was even more magical!
At 8 p.m., we returned our bikes, ate roadside food (the menu included skewers of chicken, pork, and fish fritters; a delight!)
And then we went back to the station to enjoy the free wifi to call our families and post some photos on Facebook, so Grandma can follow my journey live.
Ah, the magic of the Internet!
Now we’ll let you discover the photos 😉

Impressive that journey with a small ear. I hadn’t seen the previous stories about other trips in the cyclotourism mode when she was even younger. It’s amazing! I have a little girl who’s almost 10 months old! It makes me want to move more with her!
What beautiful memories, we were there almost a year ago. It’s really very pleasant to walk around the temples on a bike. Just be careful of stray dogs that don’t hesitate to run after you over several meters 😉
