Isle of Skye: Visit to the Talisker whisky distillery

During our short 2-day stopover on the Isle of Skye, We took the opportunity to head to the West Coast. Carbost, a hamlet located on the edge of Loc Harport, famous for its Talisker whisky distillery, the only one on the island of Skye. It is possible to make it Group visit accompanied by a guide, and to discover the long and complex process of manufacturing one of the most Famous Scottish whiskies, Known for its toasty, iodized and spicy flavor.

 

Upon entering the distillery There is a lovely reception area for tourists who wish to take the tour, with the possibility of buying bottles of whisky from different years as well as Talisker-related products such as marine polos, umbrellas, whisky services, etc…

At the counter, the employees are very Pleasant and welcoming. We were offered to fill out a small form to obtain a certificate at the end of the visit. « passport » for visit 11 other distilleries for free Scots gathered around the Classic Malts Selection (Oban, Dallwhinnie, etc…). A great marketing move, considering that all the distilleries are now part of the same group., Diageo.

The visit went quite well, it was very informative,But we regret the guide’s very pronounced Scottish accent, which didn’t allow us to fully understand everything… So we made up for it by looking at the explanatory panels installed in every room of the distillery, and they are very clear and easy to understand. Translated into French.

Despite everything, we had a nice time; the guide was nice, passionate about his profession, And at the end of the visit he offered us a Talisker tasting by explaining each step in detail so that we can better appreciate it (nose, palate, power, note, etc…)

We advise you to do the tour in end of the morning so that you will return after the visit to the merchant of seafood and local specialties Located in the heights of Carbost, it is a minute’s drive away. You can try oysters and eat them by the water.
