Songkran Festival: an unforgettable new Thai year!
Happy New Year 2556!
Thailand’s New Year took place on Saturday.

It’s the most important festival The New Year, which officially lasts three days but usually marks a week-long break. In the traditional part of the festival, the Thais show their respect by pouring some water over the hands of the elders and over representations of Buddha. But what is especially seen are water battles on every street corner!
We were on the island of Koh Lanta at the time of the festivities.
We didn't think that this festival had such a big impact on the population!
Whether it was the waiters at our hotel or the Tuk-Tuk drivers, everyone got involved!
Armed with super water guns, we set out to the battle ready for this gigantic symbolic water battle!
On the route, the water buckets are already ready; tourists and locals are gradually settling in.
We are in the center of Koh Lanta, everyone is armed with a pistol.
The battle begins.
No mercy, some even cheat by using the water jets or even stealing the ice cubes from the 7-Eleven! We quickly get soaked… 🙁
The atmosphere is great, the music is loud, the laughter and screams (the icy water is amazing!) and the car horns… It’s great, everyone is having fun!
Young and old, tourists from all over the world and locals parade through the city!
The premises are well organized; they arrive by pickup truck or truck with huge containers and jumping from the water! It’s war, a good war!
Thanks to this Water Festival that managed to bring all nations and religions together in such a beautiful battle!

Wow, what a great opportunity to have fun with the local people in the streets ^^! It makes the trip to Thailand more dynamic. The water festival also takes place in Cambodia and Laos, but with differences. It’s a shame that this isn’t a traditional festival in our country: »<
There are many celebrations taking place in Thailand. Thanks for this sharing, it makes me want to discover this beautiful country. Have a nice day from Vietnam!!!
What lovely photos! Thank you so much for sharing them. It makes me want to visit Thailand and participate in Songkran.

Songkran is truly a magnificent and exciting festival! I don’t know how many tourists gather for this annual festival, but in the end, it brings happiness to everyone! I did it in Bangkok once, what a war!!
I was in Bangkok for Songkran, it was incredible! The kids waited by the roadside with water cannons, you could say that if you pass by in a tuk-tuk, your luck is in for sure! Especially if the tuk-tuk driver decides to stop intentionally so that the kids can pour water over you from head to toe. And in the evening in Khao San Road… an open-air swimming pool! What I didn’t really like was when they poured a bucket of melted ice on your head—hello, thermal shock! 🙂 But it was really a great experience!
